When Drought Comes

Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)

“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

Hard times will come. There will be seasons in life when things don’t go as expected, when prayers seem unanswered, when money is tight, when relationships get difficult, when your heart feels dry. But the Bible tells us that it is possible to keep standing strong, even in those seasons. How? By staying rooted in God.

Jeremiah compares the one who trusts in God to a tree planted by the water. That tree does not panic when the heat comes. It is not afraid during drought. Why? Because its roots go deep, and it is connected to a source that never runs dry.

When you are rooted in God’s Word, you are not controlled by the environment around you. Others may be afraid, but you are at peace. Others may stop growing, but you keep bearing fruit. Others may give up, but you stay fresh, hopeful, and strong. This is not because you are better than them—it’s because your roots are planted in the right place.

The drought will come, it is part of life. But drought reveals what kind of root system you have. If your trust is in people, money, or strength, you will wither. But if your trust is in the Lord, you will survive the heat and keep flourishing.

God never promised that life would be easy, but He promised that He would be with us. He promised that if we trust in Him and remain rooted in His truth, we will not be shaken. Let your roots grow deep into the Word of God. Learn to drink from the waters of His presence every day. Then, when the drought comes, you will still be standing, and bearing fruit.

Confession: My trust is in the Lord. Even in dry seasons, I will not fear. I am rooted in His Word, and I will keep bearing fruit no matter what comes.
