Romans 10:17
So FAITH COMES BY HEARING [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).
The world is filled with news, words, songs and messages that do not edify nor bring the heart to a position of willingness in the things of God. Do you know that many go to church and still hear words that do not edify them? This means, where you stay to hear certain things are as important as what you hear. You cannot live well if you do not hear well. The life of a man has a lot to do with what he hears and listens to. As a Christian, all songs are not made for you. Not all teachings are made for you, no matter how wisely crafted the words are.
Jesus made a profound statement in John 15:3 – “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.” The words of Jesus, when heard and listened to, possess the ability to cleanse a man from every impurity. The question now is, who do you listen to? Christ has ordained ministers and messengers whom He has given the mandate of preaching the Good News, do you listen to them or you’d rather listen to men who teach other doctrines and gospels that are not Christ’s?
By the preaching of the Word, the right kind of faith is established in your heart. So how do you have faith in God if you do not hear words that bring a consciousness of faith into your heart? Practically, you might need to check your music playlist again and delete every song that is not edifying therein and also scan many messages in the light of God’s Word and dispose those that do not align with the Word of God (cf. Colossians 3:16). Your heart is too precious to be taken carelessly. It is for your heart that Christ died, will you now allow yourself to have a polluted heart just because you did not dare to keep watch over the gateways into your heart? As much as you can pray about this, take practical steps that will be of help in accomplishing purity of heart.
Confession: My heart is precious hence I make every effort to use my ears for the edification of my heart.
