Think On These Things (15)

1 John 4:8 (AMP)

He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love.

Jesus, in Luke 10:25-37 gave a parable of a man who was beaten and robbed on his way to Jericho. A Levite and a Priest saw the poor man lying helplessly on the road, but each went on his way. Then a Samaritan was traveling along the same road and saw the bruised man. He had compassion on him. He took it upon himself to take care of him and pay his bills until the man is well. This parable did Jesus give to explain love towards one’s neighbour. Love, in the definition of God is supposed to be practical, genuine and unconditional. Unfortunately, not many believers are living this way.

In that parable, it will be assumed that the Levite and the Priest both know God and the Samaritan who is an outcast by the Jews does not know God. However, it was the Samaritan who showed the true definition of knowing and having an acquaintance with God. You have long been proclaiming to all who care to listen that you know God. It’s a good thing to do. But do you love your neighbor? Your knowledge of God should translate into your love for your neighbor. Have you ever thought about your love for your neighbor? Can it truly be said that you love other men? If the benefits you are getting from your neighbours are taken out of the question, will you still love them genuinely?

This is a matter that deserves to be really pondered upon for it is a matter that is of good report. Be reminded that without love for your neighbor, you cannot shine as the light of the world. In the midst of hatred and criticism, do you still love? Probably you are already saying that this is a hard matter but God practiced this hard matter Himself when He gave the world His only begotten Son just because He loved us. Being like Him in all things is what brings Him pleasure. The way to love truly is to allow the Holy Spirit work it out in you. Think. Pray. Believe. Act.

Confession: The love of God is worked out in my heart and I express it to my neighbours.
