1 John 4:4
Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world.
Who are you? Do you even know and live in the reality of who you are? If there is no knowledge, for many years, a man can live with an identity that doesn’t belong to him and suffer a big deal because of that identity. The matter of identity is one that no man trivializes because it has a way of defining what will become of a man. Many a times, Christians have suffered a great deal from the hands of the enemy just because they have not really known nor comprehended who they are in Christ Jesus. Christians have been oppressed, and battered by the devil and his cohorts just because of a deficiency in the knowledge of who they are.
Ever since you have accepted and confessed the Lordship and salvation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, your identity and nature has changed. You are no longer of the world. You are no longer a sinner but a Saint. You really need to know this. Yes, after you have been saved, you will still fight against the devil but you must know that you are not fighting to win but you are fighting because you have won through Christ. You fight from the place of the victory gained by Christ when He died and resurrected. This knowledge makes you walk in freedom and power over the devil.
The devil knows that the moment you start to register this in your heart and subconscious, he loses control over you and so he makes sure that he fills your heart with lies and deceptions. You didn’t fight for the life and freedom you now have in Christ, you have it because God gave you and so it belongs to you. Let your thoughts be concentrated on this truth long enough that when next you are faced with situations that contend against you, you can readily come out to stand in the victory that you have in Christ. At salvation, Satan lost ownership over you. Believe this truth. And ponder on it.
Confession: I have victory over the devil, sin and death because Christ has won it for me.
