Galatians 5:25 (KJV)
“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Godhead who came as the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise to us after He ascended. The first move of the Holy Spirit was in the upper room where the disciples gathered on the day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit is God in man, His ever-abiding presence.
The Holy Spirit has two expressions in the life of a believer. The inward expression is for character formation (indwelling of the Spirit), and the outward expression is for power demonstration. The expression of the Holy Spirit that is focused on character formation is also known as the FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT. Then, it can be rightly said that on the day a believer becomes saved, the seed of the fruit has been planted. Jesus made it known in Matthew 12:33 that a tree (man) is known by the fruit (character) he produces.
As believers, Christ is supposed to be evident in our lives. The disciples who were first called Christians in Antioch earned that name not because of any miracle they performed, but because they portrayed the character of Jesus; hence, people couldn’t conclude less or more that the disciples were Christ-like. This is to tell you that the fruit can only be seen in DISCIPLES—those who follow and adhere with all reverence to the words and ways of Jesus. Are you a disciple?
Confession: I am a disciple of Christ, and I walk in His ways and adhere to His teachings.
