Philippians 4:5 (KJV)
“Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.”
Temperance is self-control, a moderation in appetites, passion, and almost everything. It is keeping our behaviour and lifestyle in check so that our actions, feelings, and habits can be within reasonable bounds. It is avoiding excesses in all we do. Temperance is a desirable fruit of the Spirit. Good and legitimate desires can become a sin when they go over lawful limits.
Living a life of temperance is demanding in today’s world. However, the Bible teaches us that excess of anything is not good. It is expedient for us to be moderate in all things. Moderation should be reflected in our speech; we shouldn’t be found talking like the people of the world, and the slang they use should be found wanting on our lips. The scripture advised us to make sure our words are seasoned with salt; our speech ought to bring healing, comfort, and strength to people.
Your appearance should also reflect moderation. Your appearance is a reflection of what’s in your heart. Your heart is the processing unit, while your appearance is the monitor that showcases everything being processed in your heart. Be temperate in your outward lifestyle, for that is how you are viewed by the world.
Confession: My outward appearance and lifestyle shall showcase Christ always.
