The Believing Isaac (2)

Genesis 26:22 (AMP)

“And he moved away from there and dug another well, and for that one they did not quarrel. He named it Rehoboth [room], saying, For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”

What does a man stand to gain if he gives up on the promises of God and fails to recognise the fact that he needs to be persistent in that which his hands have found to do? Lacking staying power sometimes makes it look like what God has said is not true, and so it won’t come to pass. For every word of God spoken into a man’s life, some forces are always ready to antagonise it, and this happens when men are raised to frustrate a man’s efforts. It is not possible to achieve any lasting success on earth without totally trusting the One who has promised those blessings. It has always been the plan of the devil for man to fall out of alignment with the will of God, but it is important to note that being in the will of God is the surest way to silence the noise of the devil.

Isaac was a man who followed God steadily and obediently. There was famine in the land where the Lord had told him to sojourn. The Lord even told him that He would make him fruitful in the land. And now, upon getting to the Valley of Gerar, it was discovered that all the wells that his father, Abraham, had dug in his days had been filled with sand by the Philistines, and now it was necessary to dig them again. When he dug the first one, the herdsmen of Gerar fought with him and took over the well from him. He dug the second likewise, and the same thing happened. But in all of this, he did not fight; all he did was to be persistent in his decision to dig a well.

Isaac held on to the promises of God and did not allow what man was saying or doing against him to stop him from doing what needed to be done. Isaac’s servants dug another well, and water was discovered as at the first, but those who used to fight with him over the wells did not come this time around. He had successfully silenced them by trusting God and being persistent. Beloved, you cannot be what God wants you to be if you take offence at everything done to you by humans. A man’s result shows what he has been giving his attention to. Isaac focused on what he came to do in the land and did not shift from trusting God, and at the end, the word of the Lord came to pass over him. It is important that you trust God without allowing the voice of men to stop you in your tracks.

Confession: I stay aligned with the will of God without giving heed to opposition.
