Serving With Right Heart

Colossians 3:23-24 (AMP)

“Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.“

The first thing a man serves God with is his heart. Ministry and service start from the heart before they are expressed. God is more interested in the posture of your heart than the activities of your hands or the ministry you are handling. The posture of your heart has so much effect on your service in the Kingdom and ministry to God. God is the first recipient of your ministry, and He sees your heart before your service.

Abel and Cain were two people who first gave offerings to God (Genesis 4); God accepted Abel and his offering, but he had no respect for Cain and his offering. The difference between these two is the state of their hearts. Abel’s heart was right, while Cain’s heart wasn’t, and this had effects on their service. If your heart is not right with God, your ministry can never be right.

True ministry flows from love and obedience, not the desire for recognition or applause. When your heart is right, even the smallest acts, like ushering, cleaning, and organizing, become powerful expressions of worship. Remember, God weighs motives, not titles. A pure heart aligns your service with God’s perfect will. There is no reward for a service done with a profane motive. Check your heart and he sure you are serving with the right heart. If you notice your heart is not right, ask God to purge your heart. Examine your motives in ministry today. Ask yourself, Would I still serve if no one noticed or thanked me?

Confession: My heart is purged of every impurity that may render my service to God of no value.
