“The things [the doctrine, the precepts, the admonitions, the sum of my ministry] which you have heard me teach in the presence of many witnesses, entrust [as a treasure] to reliable and faithful men who will also be capable and qualified to teach others.”
Discipleship is the most crucial tool for spreading the gospel. Without discipleship, sons who will be committed to the course of their Father’s kingdom will not be made. Discipleship is raising believers to live like Christ and grow into a full measure of the life of Christ. Disciples are made, and making is a process. The end of discipleship is that the one who has been discipled also disciples others, and the cycle continues. It doesn’t stop with you being discipled. The essence of it is that you’re able to also raise other disciples.
Discipleship is what makes the difference between the Church and the world. It is what shapes a believer to live like Christ and be like Christ. Discipleship is a great commission, and it has been committed into the hands of all believers. First, you wait to be discipled, and you, in turn, go and disciple others. A Christian life is the one that’s patterned after Christ’s (John 14:12-13). What Christ cannot do, a believer is not expected to do. Colossians 3:4-5 makes us understand the fact that Christ is now our life, and we should put away all works of the flesh.
As believers, we should understand that the moment we come into Christ, we have crucified our old life, accepted Christ’s life, been made right with God by the blood of Jesus, and most importantly, been given victory over sin through His sacrifice on the cross. And by the Holy Spirit, we are empowered to live like Christ and, more so, as we consciously yield to His leading.
Confession: I am a disciple of Christ, and I live like Christ here on earth even as I raise other disciples.
