“At the same time pray for us, too, that God will open a door [of opportunity] to us for the word, to proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I have been imprisoned; that I may make it clear [and speak boldly and unfold the mystery] in the way I should.”
In teaching His disciples how to pray as recorded in Matthew 6:9ff and Luke 11:1ff, Jesus said, “Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” What this means is that Christ teaches that God’s Will will be done when His Kingdom finds expression on earth, and this becomes a reality when the knowledge of the glory of God fills the earth as water covers the sea.
Missions, soul-winning, and evangelism bring this experience into reality. Missions is beyond just going out for evangelism and doing soul-winning within the neighborhood. Missions explores more than that. The call for missions is the call to reach the unreached with the Gospel and also make provisions available for their accurate discipleship.
One key part of missions is PRAYERS. Without heartfelt and selfless prayers, missions become an impossible task. Every believer should engage in the work of missions, and in cases where everyone cannot go, everyone should pray heartily for the work of missions. Unfortunately, many believers today do not even know what missions are all about or if there is any group of people called the unreached.
Going for missions in the hinterland and giving to the work of missions will achieve little or no results without heartfelt, consistent, and persistent prayer labour. In missions, every result comes by prayer, and even the resources to make the work effective come by prayer: prayer for the salvation of souls, for their growth in the faith, and for the resources to make the work effective. When last have you prayed for the work of missions? Won’t you take up this challenge today and pray?
