Mark 3:14
“And He appointed twelve, that they might BE WITH HIM, and that HE MIGHT SEND THEM out to preach.”
Tunde first assumed his supervisor simply liked silence or was naturally disciplined. But as weeks passed, Tunde began to notice something deeper. Mr. Adebayo was rarely bothered, even when deadlines were tight or unexpected problems arose. While others reacted in haste, he responded with calmness, as though he had already arranged his thoughts long before the pressure arrived.
One particularly morning, the office buzzed with urgency. Phones rang nonstop, emails piled up, and a client arrived unannounced with complaints. Tunde watched as Mr. Adebayo listened attentively, asked measured questions, and offered solutions without raising his voice. Later that day, Tunde remembered the quiet minutes his supervisor took every morning and realized those moments were not wasted time but intentional preparation and so he decided to arrive early the next day. He sat at his desk in silence, resisting the urge to scroll through his phone. Instead, he prayed for few minutes, reviewed his tasks, reflected on his priorities, and took a few deep breaths. The difference surprised him. He felt less hurried, more focused, and better able to handle interruptions.
Over time, this simple habit reshaped his work ethic. He learnt that success was not only about working hard but about working with a prayer life and a settled mind.
Prayer is the first and most essential call of discipleship. Before Jesus ever sent His disciples to teach, heal, or minister, He called them simply to be with Him. This intimacy formed the foundation of everything they would do. In the same way, prayer is how a disciple responds daily to that call, the heartbeat of a life that is aligned with God.
Prayer is the anchor that keeps the heart steady and focused, ensuring that every action stems from God’s wisdom rather than human urgency and a disciple who neglects prayer may appear busy and productive, but inwardly they will grow weak, disconnected, and vulnerable to distractions.
Just as a lamp without oil cannot shine, a life without prayer cannot sustain spiritual vitality. To walk in true discipleship, one must prioritize communion with God, allowing prayer to shape not only what is done, but who the disciple becomes.
Practical Application: Begin your day today with prayer before engaging in any activity.
Confession: I declare that prayer is my first response, not my last option. I declare that I answer God’s call to fellowship daily. I declare that my life is ordered by communion with God, and my days are aligned by prayer.
