Genesis 22:8
“And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.”
Bunmi stared at her old, worn and torn school shoes on the rack, few days before school started, and her family was already struggling financially. She needed a new pair of shoes, but her dad just paid a large, unexpected car repair bill. “Dad, I don’t need a new one,” Bunmi said, trying to sound cheerful. “I’ll just patch up my old one.” Her father simply smiled sadly, patting her hand. “We trust that God provides, Bunmi. We will pray about it.”
That evening, someone came knocking at the door. It was Mrs. Nwachukwu, a neighbor whom they barely knew. She was holding a brand-new and perfectly sized pair of school shoes and she said “I bought this shoes for my son, but he decided that he wanted a different colour and I knew you had a daughter who was going to start school, so instead of going through the stress of returning and offending the seller, I came to ask if you would need it please”. Bunmi was so stunned because aside the miracle of provision, the shoe size was perfect. It wasn’t just a shoe but a reminder that God saw their need before they even asked.
Just as Abraham trusted God to provide a sacrifice on the mountain, and just as God saw Bunmi’s need, He is active in our lives today. Sometimes we are called to walk up the mountain of obedience, unsure of how things will turn out. We often try to control every outcome, worrying about our finances, our health, or our futures. But true faith is trusting that God is “Jehovah Jireh” (The Lord Will Provide). The “ram in the thicket” (the solution) is often already there, hidden behind the bushes of our current worries, waiting for us to fully trust Him.
Practical Application: Is there a “mountain” you are struggling with today? Bring it to the LORD and ask for the faith to trust His provision, even if you can’t see it yet.
CONFESSION: I declare that the Lord is my Provider. I walk in trust, even when the path before me is difficult. Fear has no place in my heart, for I am confident that God knows my needs before I ask. I lay every worry on the altar, and I rest in His perfect timing. My life is sustained by His provision, and I lack nothing. Amen
