“When all that generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who did not know the LORD nor the work which He had done for Israel.” Judges 2:10
In Wales, long after the fires of the 1904–1905 revival had dimmed, elderly men and women still spoke with trembling voices. They remembered coal miners praying in the pits. They remembered taverns closing for lack of customers. They remembered whole towns falling silent under the weight of God’s presence.
But decades later, many of their grandchildren knew these stories without knowing the God of those stories.
The chapels still stood. Hymns were still sung. Scriptures were still read. Yet something vital was missing. The fire was not been passed on; it was only been talked about and so what once lived in the hearts of men was reduced to mere history books and testimonies of “what God used to do.”
The revival was real and the problem here was not the fire but the failure to intentionally hand it to the next generation.
Revival that is not transmitted will eventually die and fizzle out.
God never intended revival to be an event that people merely remember; He designed it to be a culture that is inherited. When a generation encounters God but fails to disciple the next, the fire dies, not because heaven withdrew, but because the torch was never placed into new hands.
Altars must be rebuilt in young hearts. Doctrine must be taught, not assumed. Prayer must be modeled, not merely encouraged. Encounters must be explained, interpreted, and grounded in Scripture so that experience becomes conviction.
Lasting revival requires intentional discipleship, patient teaching, and visible examples of lives truly governed by God. Without this, the fire fades into folklore.
Confession: I will not hoard the fire God has given me. I will teach, model, and transfer the ways of God to the next generation. What God ignites in my lifetime will burn beyond my lifetime. My generation will not fail the ones coming after us. Amen.
