“By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.” – Hebrews 11:8
In 1793, William Carey left England for India when missions was unpopular, unsupported, and misunderstood. Many believed there was no need to “go.” Others felt it was an unnecessary zeal, but William saw something differently which was the command of Christ as present and binding. He did not leave with financial security. He did not leave with widespread approval. He did not leave with the certainty of success but he left with obedience.
He was once wrote, “I can plod” and that was his secret. Not brilliance. Not applause. Not visible results. Just steady and simple obedience to God’s call.
Years later, his obedience produced Bible translations, schools, social reform, and a missionary awakening that reshaped history. But when he was GOING, none of that was visible. He simply obeyed.
Obedience does not require full explanation. God often reveals direction to us step by step. Delayed obedience is actually disobedience. When we obey beyond understanding, we are actually positioning ourselves inside God’s unfolding plan. Faith acts before clarity is complete.
Practical Application: Obey one instruction God has already placed on your heart without delay.
Confession: I obey quickly and completely. Even when I do not see the full picture, I trust God’s direction. Amen
