“Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name.” – Matthew 6:9 (AMP)
Prayer is the means of communication between man and God. Before the coming of Jesus, men have been praying to God but not in the way Christ came to introduce God to be. One important personality of God that Jesus came to show the world is that God is our Father. The Fatherhood nature of God has always been there but Christ opened the eyes of His disciples to it.
Throughout the Gospel, Jesus made it very clear to the disciples that God is His Father, and our Father. Having this understanding about who God is will fuel a relationship that is different from seeing God as One Supreme Being that is far away from His Creatures. Relating with God as our Father brings Him closer to us. In an atmosphere of genuine love, fathers are always close to their children.
True as this is, yet, many who have come into Christ have not settled it in their hearts that God is indeed their Father and they still relate with Him like someone so far away who doesn’t really care about them or how they live. God cares about you and He loves you. You must settle this in your heart and believe it. Knowing and understanding this will help you relate with God on the basis of love.
Christ introduces God as One who cares about you, not just because He created you but also because you are now His child through Christ Jesus. God is not a tyrant. When you make mistakes, God wants to correct you and bring you back into Him with love. He will not condemn you, nor will He cast you off from His Presence. Have you settled this in your heart? And do you live with this understanding that God is your Father? If you haven’t, then you must take a step today, as this will further strengthen your relationship with Him. God is your Father and He cares so deeply about you. Blessings.
Practical Application: Have you ever been a position where the only thing that made sense to you was the love of God even when you didn’t deserve it? How did this affect your walk with God? Daily recognize God as your Father.
Confession: I am no longer a slave, I am a child of God. God is my Father and I enjoy His love. I am not limited in my understanding of His love for me.
