“Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” – Matthew 6:10 (AMP)
Prayer has many reasons and definitions. Before Christ came, men have been praying but mostly, wrongly. Christ came to give a fresh perspective and insight into what prayer is really all about. To know the Lord and do His will, disciples must learn to pray aright. In the first two verses of Jesus’ way to pray which He taught His disciples, He shows that prayer is not first of all about you but about God.
The first statement is to hallow the name of God and the second is to pray that the Kingdom of God will come and His Will would be done. When you go to the place of prayer, you must set your heart on God and desire to pray as He leads you. You cannot effectively do the work of prayer without being led by the Spirit of God.
Disciples are witnesses and propagators of the Kingdom of God here on earth and one of our duties is to pray the Kingdom of God to come literally. And, in another word, what do you pray for? And why do you pray for what you pray for? That request you place before God incessantly, of what purpose is it if and when it is answered?
Disciples don’t just pray selfish and self-centered prayers, but Christ is teaching us to pray God-oriented prayers. What is the purpose you pray to have a child, or to be wealthy, or to have a job, or to gain admission, or to have a marital partner? If the underline purpose is not for the sake of the Kingdom, then you are not praying the Kingdom way.
And as you pray literally that the Will of God would be done, you must also prepare your heart to do His will in every step you take and as you pray, you must not exalt your Will above His. What distinguishes you from any other person in the world is that you are a disciple of Christ and this means that it is the will of Christ that must be so important to you than anything else. Wherever you are, pray that the Kingdom of God would come literally and also, in your other prayer points, let the underlying purpose be the Kingdom of God and His Will. Blessings.
Practical Application: How do you that you are praying the Kingdom way? Check the content of your prayers for the past weeks and judge this with the Scriptures?
Confession: I am an ambassador of the Kingdom of God and I seek His Will to be done earth daily and in every area of my life. I am yielded to God at all times. His Will takes preeminence in my life always.
