“Remember [thoughtfully] also your Creator in the days of your youth [for you are not your own, but His], before the evil days come or the years draw near when you will say [of physical pleasures], “I have no enjoyment and delight in them.”” – Ecclesiastes 12:1 (AMP)
The Preacher, Solomon the son of David, who became king after his father wrote the book of Ecclesiastes to bring perspective to different matters in a man’s life and to explain the vanity of all human ambitions which are not aligned with the will of God for man. And as he brought this discourse into a close, he wrote succinctly, “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth…” He wrote this as though he was writing to some group of young people seated and listening to his words.
Every man was given the gift of life by God and the whole essence of man is to live for God. And this is not just by being existing, it is by truly living. Right from childhood to adulthood, God expects the man He has created to live in honour and worship of Him. The best gift a man can give God, or rather to say, return to God, is his life. No matter what you give God, if your life doesn’t belong to Him, then you have not given Him anything of true worth and value.
There are many who have the notion of serving God fully and wholeheartedly in their latter years on earth and use their youthful days the way they’d like just because they believe being God’s means denial of enjoyment and the good things of life. This is a lie masked with experiences that tag it true in order to draw many away from the Lord.
God doesn’t deserve the remnant of your life. He deserves the best. What many give to God is the remnant of their lives. They’d rather live in ways that please them when they have the strength and energy than do for God. A lot of people have targeted their old age as the best time to serve God but this is not meant to be. God desires you even in your youthful days when you are still agile and strong.
Dear believer, don’t wait until you no longer have strength and many years on earth again before you fully commit your life to God. Give Him the best of your life everyday and this is what brings pleasure and delight to Him more than your money or any other things you might give to Him.
Reflections: What am I doing with my youthful days? Have I given God my life totally and wholeheartedly? Who owns the best days of my life?
Confession: I acknowledge that God is my Creator and He is the one who owns my life. I will serve and worship Him all my days. I give my life to Him and I hold nothing back. He is my strength and help.
