THE PRAYER OF SUPPLICATION (2) – INTERCESSION

“Therefore, confess your sins to one another [your false steps, your offenses], and pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored. The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) is able to accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].” – James 5:16 (AMP)

Prayer of intercession is the act of praying to God on behalf of another person, a group of people, a nation, or a situation. The person praying stands in the gap, asking God to show mercy, provide help, bring healing, grant wisdom, or intervene according to His will.

An intercessor seeks God’s blessing for others rather than focusing on personal needs.

Just like the prayer of supplication, the prayer of Intercession presents someone’s case to God. Praying on behalf of someone before the presence of God. There are several examples of those who stood in the gap for someone in the bible. Abraham stood in the gap for Sodom and Gomorrah, to plead their case before God, Moses interceded for the people of Israel, Jesus interceded for the disciples, the church in the book of Acts interceded for Peter when he was arrested and thrown into jail.

Looking at these examples, and the great testimonies that came out of them, we see the importance of praying for one another, for the church, for the society and the world at large. Praying for one another is more like iron sharpening iron. Every believer is expected to pray for someone or some people. Sometimes, God can reveal someone’s problem, case, situation to you and He expects you to go into prayers for such a person. Pray for the salvation of a person’s soul. One way we can show love to others is by praying for them whenever we have to.

Your prayer for someone today can go a long way in saving such a person’s life, winning a soul, and transforming a society.

God is looking for someone to stand in the gap just like Ezekiel, Daniel, and so many others; to pray for the church, for the community, society, family, nation and world at large. You can never tell how far your prayers would go in doing wonders in a person’s life.

Action Point: Pray for someone today, for the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Plead another person’s case before God.

Confession: I receive the grace and strength to stand in the gap for men and nations. I plead the case of others around me until they experience breakthrough.
