ABRAHAM – THE SACRIFICIAL GIVER (4)

“Now the [two] men (angelic beings) turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before the Lord. Abraham approached [the Lord] and said, “Will You really sweep away the righteous (those who do right) with the wicked (those who do evil)?” – Genesis 18:22-23 (AMP)

Abraham had received three men in his abode, entertained them and gave them comfort from the it journey before they continued to where they were actually going – Sodom. The land of Sodom is filled with people who are ungodly and evil in their hearts and doings. So, like making a research in order to ascertain the authenticity of what was actually being received as a signal of what was taking place in Sodom. They came to check and to prove the report was true. God didn’t need to come as such to destroy a nation like Sodom actually.

Then, when it was time to leave, Abraham accompanied them until they entered the territory 9f Sodom and Gomorrah but he stood still before the Lord. The Lord revealed what He planned to do to Sodom to Abraham and this was a great privilege that God would take a man as His friend whom He could speak with as though He was seeking counsel from him. Normally, Abraham was supposed to go back home to his family and take a rest for the day but he had to commune with the Lord.

Abraham gave his time to intercede for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah even though they were evidently known for wickedness and evil. He could have reacted as though their judgment wasn’t is concern and could have even said they deserved the judgment they were about to receive. But, being the kind of man he is, he stood before the Lord.

It takes a man who can give his time for the good of others that can intercede for men. Time is costly, valuable and it is the essence of a man’s life, and so anyone who gives his time to pray for another is actually gifting his life. Believers are called to be selfless even in the use of their time. Prayers must be offered unto God on behalf of unbelievers for their salvation. If all you do is use your time for yourself, you will never be able to do this. What you can give is not only your money, but also your time in the place of prayer for the life of another. Don’t be a believer who only knows to pray for himself and not for others.

Reflections: What do I use my time for? Do others benefit from the use of my time? When last have I been selfless in my prayers? Do I still intercede for sinners and fellow believers?

Confession: I am the salt of the earth and comfort and sweetness is experienced in the world because I am in it. I am selfless in the use of my time. I take my time to pray for others and take them up before God. People’s lives become better because they know me.
