Daniel 1:19-20
“And the king conversed with them, and among them all none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah; therefore they were assigned to stand before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding concerning which the king asked them, he found them ten times better than all the [learned] magicians and enchanters who were in his whole realm.”
A man’s life does not consist of what he eats or drinks; it is about the impact he can make in his immediate environment. Every man is entitled to right living, and each person has a choice to make in living right. Living rightly in the Kingdom means living according to the will and purposes of God, not according to the philosophy of men. The good done and inspired by man can lead him to pride and self-glorification, but that done and inspired by God humbles a man in recognising the power and greatness of God, thereby leading man to return all glory to God.
Daniel and his three friends dared to disobey the instruction of the king with regard to their three-year training. The strength to take such a step and find favour with their instructor did not come from the wisdom and power of men but from the wisdom and power of God. When it happened that their request not to eat of the king’s dainties was granted, they must have thought in themselves that God was indeed backing up their decision and determination. And so when a man prays for the help of God in a certain situation, He will grant you the needed help according to His will, but He will not play your part for you. You must do your part to activate the help that He has already given you.
The difference was made clear after three years of eating vegetables and water, different from the dainties of the king. These four young men were much better, good-looking and intelligent than the rest who ate the king’s dainties. Bear in mind that these four men were not the only Hebrews who were called upon for the training, but they were the only ones who made this decision not to defile themselves. Daring to be different for God’s purposes does not start corporately but individually. Do not allow the will of man to change your decision to do the will of God. God can make you ten times better if only you would stay with Him in reverent fear and obedience to His instructions. Keep the faith!
Confession: In a world of compromise, I dare to keep the faith.
