Daniel and His Friends (3)

Daniel 2:17-18 (AMP)

“Then Daniel went to his house and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, So that they would desire and request mercy of the God of heaven concerning this secret, that Daniel and his companions should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.”

It is easy to think of men who chose to be different by relying on themselves, always going about with the mantra of believing in oneself, but true and lasting impact comes when a man begins to believe in God instead of himself or his abilities. The present world that we are in is so focused on the ability of the self that it has soon forgotten that Christians are not supposed to focus or rely on the self to do anything but on God. Every picture of success and impact painted by the ideologies of the world is that, inasmuch as a man can believe in himself, he would achieve the unachievable, but the focus today shows something entirely different from this viewpoint. There is a place for a man’s actions if he truly wants to be different, but they shouldn’t in any way be substituted for the ability that God gives.

It happened that Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, had a dream that he forgot and also didn’t understand. After fruitlessly consulting with his magicians and wise men, he determined to destroy his officers because no one could answer the king as expected with tangible results. Daniel, being a part of those who have been marked for destruction, asked for some time from the king’s officer in order that he might pray to God, who gives the explanation and interpretation of a dream. It should leave you baffled that a man demands that a fellow man tell or remind him of his own dream and still wants to kill them if they don’t know it. And so at this point, Daniel went to meet his three Hebrew friends in order that they might seek the face of God together.

These men gave themselves to prayer to make a tangible difference in their environment and locality. You can never make the difference truly needed if you are not a man of prayers and supplications. Daniel made a difference through the efficacy of prayer. Your life produces kingdom results when you rely on God through the process. Prayer is a sign of surrender and humility, even as you approach God, letting Him in on your inadequacies and weaknesses. Will you learn to trust God in prayers now?

Confession: I do not depend on myself for impact and transformation, but on God through prayer.
