Daniel 6:10
“Now when Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house, and his windows being open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he got down upon his knees three times a day and prayed and gave thanks before his God, as he had done previously.”
The life of a man does not consist of what he eats, drinks, or wears. As much as these things can be given attention, they do not sum up the importance that a man’s life carries. And in life, no one lives or grows by himself; he has to grow with others who are growing like them. But in an environment where that which a man holds in high esteem is questioned and/or challenged, then it is left to such a man to live well so that he improves on his value. Every moment is full of challenges for Christians, but their responses to these issues reveal a lot to reveal about them. Why do you do what you do as a Christian?
Considering quickly, the life of Daniel with these men who wanted to get rid of him teaches a great lesson for Christians today. In order that they might catch Daniel, they attached the issue to his God, saying that none must ask anything of anyone for many days except from the king. Daniel, knowing this plot, did not stop praying to God. His prayer to God was not that which is full of selfish desires but that which reveals the will of God on earth. And when Daniel was caught praying, with his windows opened and facing the side of Jerusalem like he was used to doing, by the decree of the King, which even the king himself could not change, they threw him into a lion’s den. And when has it become a crime to pray to God?
The devil always wants to make sure that a Christian loses touch with God and thereby goes haywire, living his life anyhow he can. The reason it is sometimes easy for you to be silenced easily in your acts of godliness by ungodly people is that your reason for engaging in those spiritual activities is basically for your selfish desires. A man who already possesses the nature of God, though challenged for his faith, will continue because he cannot live without his food or oxygen. You stopped studying your Bible just because you were mocked by your friends. Why were you reading it in the first place? You stopped praying because you have been nicknamed. Wait, why were you praying in the first place? If you see these as the only way for you to live and grow in this Kingdom, you won’t stop doing them. Do not stop your fellowship with God for any reason. Let love for God be your motivation always.
Confession: My worship of God is motivated by love, now and always.
