1 Corinthians 9:25a (KJV)

“And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things…”

In Agriculture, there are different kinds of fruit with different components like the pericarp, epicarp, mesocarp, endocarp and seed but still remains as one, is the same way the fruit of the Spirit is one but with different components. Love, Joy, Peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance are components of the fruit of the Spirit as recorded in Galatians 5:22-23.

No one can tag himself as perfect just because he shows temperance always but lacks in faith. God desires perfection from every believer (Matthew 5:48). Jesus said he who offends in one, offends in all. Every component is essential, every component is needed to make us live a life of the Spirit, every component is worth thriving for because they all work hand in hand as we walk and live in the Spirit.

Lacking any of these components is a call to not expressing Christian virtues, a deficiency in any of the components is call to an attack from any work of the flesh, a missing part of the components makes you susceptible to temptation – you’ll be too weak to fight against one cause you’re not well COVERED. Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:25 that every man that strives for the mastery is temperate in all things. Check for the components you’re lacking and be determined by the help of the Spirit to gain mastery of it.
