“He also chose David His servant And took him from the sheepfolds; From tending the ewes with nursing young He brought him To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance. So David shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart; And guided them with his skillful hands.” – Psalm 78:70-72 (AMP)
Every man ordained by God to lead and direct His people must have a level of skillfulness that makes for enduring impact. David was a man who led and guided the people committed into his hands and ensured that he made profit unto God. David, being a shepherd boy before he became king, knew what it entailed to lead a sheepfold and since God’s people are likened to a flock of sheep, though on a larger scale, he led them like he would his father’s flock.
The integrity of the heart does so much as positioning a leader in alignment with God but skillfulness is equally important in fulfilling all that God has committed into his hands. No one leads a people to fulfillment only by the sincerity of heart. Skill is equally needed. Having an understanding of what the Lord will have you do as a leader goes a long way in equipping you to fully being impactful.
Every leader has been assigned the responsibility of showing the way to the people in order that they might lead a fulfilled life but if such person lacks the skill needed to achieve this, it becomes increasingly difficult to bring to pass what the Lord has purposed.
Dear believer, the world has grown from the times of being abstract with God. The generation you are in demands the practicality of all you teach about God. And it is by showing them that real impact can be made. Their attention shouldn’t be focused on your abilities but the grace of God, howbeit, they can be made to know that real impact comes by depending on the Holy Spirit even as you use your abilities to work things out.
Always work to get better at fulfilling God’s assignment for you. You can always do better without misplacing priorities.
Reflections: What area of my usability must I improve on to further strengthen the impact of the work committed into my hands?
Confession: I decree that I have the strength and the grace to do all that the Lord has committed into my hands to do. I do not slack in any of them. I stay focused on the Lord and get better at doing His commands.
