John 16:7 (AMP)
“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].”
The Person of the Holy Spirit and His presence in the life of the believer was introduced by Jesus along with His importance in the life of the believer and it is expedient that every believer knows and understands who He is and what He has come to do. Living in the ignorance of the Person and character of the Holy Spirit is a great hindrance to being intimate with Him.
No one becomes close and intimate with someone they do not know nor understand his lifestyle and character. Understanding is an important tool in building intimacy with the Holy Spirit. Many do not know the Holy Spirit to be the Jesus in us. Jesus called the Holy Spirit ‘Another Comforter’ which means that He’s come to fill the gap of Jesus in the life of the Believer while Christ is seated in Heaven.
The kind of close fellowship that Jesus had with His disciples while He was on earth was the same Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would have when He comes to world. Having and living with this understanding helps the believer to desire close fellowship and communion with the Holy Spirit.
How do you feel when you know there is someone who is always interested in your comfort and peaceful and meaningful existence? The kind of joy you have when you have a friend that would see that you are not helpless is just a bit lesser than that which you will have when you know you have the Holy Spirit as your Helper. Take your time to study the person and character of the Holy Spirit because this is efficient in the helping you build intimacy with Him.
