1 John 4:10 (KJV)
“Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
Love is God and God is love. In other words, love is a fundamental characteristic of who God is. Everything God does is driven and influenced by His love. Jesus Christ emphasized this by identifying the commandments to love God as the first and general law, after which He declared the directive to love fellow humans as the second most important law.
Love is unquenchable and has more worth than all of one’s possessions because it satisfies as nothing else can. We must first learn to love God before we can love our fellow human beings. Loving God entails worshipping and praising Him alone, making Him priority in all we do, desiring to do His will and yearning for His righteousness, keeping His word and totally obeying his instructions.
You must also show love to every human, however, loving them doesn’t mean agreeing with whatever they say or do that doesn’t align with the will of God or acting in ways that always gain their approval. It is attending to their needs both physical and spiritual. Also by sharing God’s truth with them cause Jesus alone saves and meets people at their point of need. The love towards our neighbours is evidence of our love towards God. You just bear this fruit as one born of the love of God.
Confession: Because I am born of love, I express love towards my neighbours.
