1 Corinthians 13:5 (NLT)
“Or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.”
A selfish person is a loveless person. God demonstrated His greatest love to mankind through the sacrifice of His Son. A selfish person does not love. As a child of God, God expects you to demonstrate His love through sacrifice. Love is not self-centered and self-focused. Love looks out for others and their welfare. A person who successfully loves is a person who sacrifices for the other party. It could be your time, resources, or your desires.
Selfishness is when you care about yourself only. Only you matter; you don’t care about others’ welfare and state. A selfish person might not necessarily be in short supply; it could be your talent. When you refuse to use whatever God has deposited inside of you to bless others, you’re being selfish. Don’t let self-incapacitation stop you from being a blessing. Step out of the shell of selfishness and become a blessing to others.
Selfishness will make you fall short of what God has committed to your hands. God will not commit destinies into your hands if you’re selfish. If everything is about you, how people look at you, how they speak to you, how they respond to you, and how they act toward you. When you prioritize your pain above others’ pain, you don’t want to hear or understand them, then you’re selfish. God encourages us to live a selfless life by loving our neighbours as ourselves. Constantly ask God to help your heart to live a selfless life.
