“Then after fasting and praying, they laid their hands on them [in approval and dedication] and sent them away [on their first journey].”
The Disciples of Christ are men and women who have decided to follow Jesus, come what may, and also yield to His instructions in total obedience. After Christ had accomplished His task on earth and had fulfilled the will of the Father, He gave His disciples a command, “GO!”
Evangelism and soul winning are carried out in local and immediate communities either as a person or as a group of people, but such is quite different from missions. One who is not ready to leave his comfort zone for danger zones for the sake of Christ cannot be a missionary. On the basic level, every Christian is supposed to be a missionary and get involved in whatever capacity the Lord has given them.
However, there are some believers who have been specially called by God to go to these unreached lands and declare the Gospel of salvation and deliverance to those in darkness that they may see the light. And this is not just a one-time effort. It is beyond just preaching the Gospel and disappearing from the scene after that. A system and structure must be put in place for those who have been saved to be discipled and raised in the way of the Kingdom.
Whether you have been specially commissioned by God to be a missionary or you are just a Christian who is playing his part in this course, you must understand that your labour is not in vain and your reward is bountiful. It is the will of God that those who sit in darkness see the Great Light. Be the carrier of that light as you pray, give, and go for the work of missions.
