“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” – Ephesians 6:12
A farmer planted seed at the beginning of the rains and expected harvest in due season. Weeks passed, yet nothing appeared above the soil. Neighbours mocked him, calling the land barren and his labour foolish. Still, each morning he returned to the field—watering, clearing weeds, guarding the ground. What they could not see was that beneath the surface, roots were pressing through hardened soil, contending with stones and resistance.
When green shoots finally broke through, they stood firm. What survived the struggle below was able to endure the exposure above.
Resistance did not mean the seed was dead; it meant growth was being contested.
So it is with prayer. The moment a disciple commits to praying according to God’s will, opposition becomes inevitable. Prayer is not only communion with God; it is confrontation with unseen forces that resist divine purpose. Every genuine advance in the spirit provokes resistance in the unseen realm.
Many disciples pray until resistance appears, then retreat—mistaking opposition for denial. But mature disciples understand that resistance is often the confirmation that something eternal is in motion. Scripture reveals moments when answers were delayed, not because God was unwilling, but because battles were being fought beyond human sight.
To pray through resistance requires endurance, discipline, and faith rooted in truth. Warfare prayer is not emotional striving; it is steadfast standing. It is holding ground when silence tempts discouragement and persistence feels costly. The disciple who prevails learns that prayer is sometimes less about asking and more about refusing to withdraw.
Those who endure in prayer do not merely receive answers—they establish territory. Victory belongs to the disciple who refuses to quit, who contends until what God has spoken is fully manifested.
PRACTICAL APPLICATION: Identify areas where resistance has caused discouragement or prayerlessness. Return to those places in prayer with renewed endurance, anchoring your petitions in God’s Word rather than feelings.
CONFESSION: Father, I receive grace to endure in prayer. I refuse to retreat in the face of resistance. Strengthen my spirit to stand firm, to wrestle lawfully, and to prevail according to Your will. I declare that my prayers will not fall to the ground. I contend until Your purpose is established, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
