REVIVAL BEGINS WITH REPENTANCE

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven…” 2 Chronicles 7:14

In 1904, a young coal miner named Evan Roberts began to pray a dangerous prayer: “Lord, bend me.” He was only 26 years old. There was no large platform. No famous name. No grand strategy. Only a burning conviction that the Church needed cleansing.

When the meetings began in Wales, there was no orchestrated program. No emotional manipulation. Often, there was no preacher at all. People would just rise spontaneously and confess their sins publicly. Hardened men wept. Broken relationships were restored. Debts were repaid. Stolen goods were returned. Miners who had spent their wages in taverns fell under deep conviction. Bars were emptied. Some taverns shut down because of lack of customers. Judges reported fewer cases to try. Police formed quartets to sing at revival meetings because crime had dropped so drastically.

One well-known account tells of how even the mules in the coal mines were confused because they found out that miners stopped cursing them and began speaking gently. The animals did not understand the new language of grace.

What happened? It was not hype. It was not noise. It was simply TRUE REPENTANCE. Hearts were cleansed. Pride was broken. Hidden sins were exposed to the light, and when humility filled the land, heaven responded.

Revival is not primarily about crowds. It is about cleansing.

God does not pour fresh fire into unyielded vessels. He responds to humility and that’s what brings about repentance and it is not weakness but accurate alignment with heaven; agreeing with God about what He calls sin and turning from it completely.

Before corporate awakening, there must be personal surrender. Before national transformation, there must be individual confession.

We often pray, “Lord, send revival,” but heaven asks, “Will you repent?”

Revival begins where excuses end.

Practical Application: Pause today and ask the Holy Spirit if there is pride you have justified, bitterness you have hidden and compromise you have tolerated?

Do not delay. Address it today. Apologize where needed. Restore what has been broken. Turn decisively from what grieves God.

Revival does not begin in stadiums, it begins in surrendered hearts.

Confession: My heart is clean before the Lord. I walk in humility and repentance. Every hidden thing is brought into the light. Revival begins in me. Amen.
