Rooted and Built Up in Him

Colossians 2:6-7 (NIV)

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

The Christian life does not end when you give your life to Jesus, infact, it begins there. When a building is going to be tall and strong, its foundation must go deep. In the same way, our life in Christ must be rooted deeply in Him. We must grow deeper before we grow higher.

Paul tells us in Colossians that just as we received Christ, we must continue in Him. Many people receive Jesus with joy, but they stop growing after that. They do not feed on the Word, they do not pray, they do not fellowship with other believers. Soon, their faith becomes weak. But that is not God’s plan for us.

God wants you to be rooted, built up, and strengthened in Him. Being rooted means that your life is grounded in the truth of Jesus; what He has done, what He has said, and what He is still doing. It means you don’t live by feelings or opinions, but by the Word of God.

Being built up means you are growing step by step. Your faith becomes stronger. Your love grows deeper. Your mind becomes renewed. You begin to look more like Jesus in your words, actions, and decisions. This is not instant, it takes time, effort, and consistency. But God is faithful to finish what He started in you.

Finally, Paul says we must overflow with thankfulness. This is one sign of a healthy Christian life. When you are deeply rooted in Christ, you are not always complaining, you are thankful. You don’t lose heart easily, you are hopeful. You don’t get shaken by every wind of trouble, you stand strong in the Lord.

So today, stay rooted. Stay built up. Don’t stop where you started. Let your roots go deep into Christ and let your life grow strong in Him.

Confession: I am rooted in Christ and built up in Him. My faith grows stronger every day. I live with joy and thankfulness because I know I am firmly planted in Jesus.
