SERMON ON THE MOUNT (15)

“But don’t think you’ve preserved your virtue simply by staying out of bed. Your heart can be corrupted by lust even quicker than your body. Those leering looks you think nobody notices–they also corrupt.” – Matthew 5:28 (MSB)

Sexual sins have always been a means through which the devil plagues many Christians with different problems and issues, and more than that, these sins make a man impure and unholy before God. But how does this start or where does it begin from?

The Law of Moses says, ‘you shall not commit adultery – (this has to do with being sexually involved with someone who is not your legally wedded spouse) but the explanation of this Law by Christ says, DON’T EVEN THINK IT! It is easy to abstain from being sexually and physically involved with someone you are not married to than not to think about being sexually involved with them when their physical appearance appeals to you.

The Scripture commands that you guard your heart with all diligence for out of it proceeds the issues of life and this is one aspect you need to guard your heart on. You cannot just allow your heart to stray into lustful thoughts and think nothing is wrong since you are not physically involved.

As a Christian, either young or old, you must know that every act starts from the heart, either consciously or subconsciously, so does lustful and sinful acts. You must protect your heart and not allow these thoughts have foothold in your heart. You can easily judge adulterers when they are caught but since no one sees your heart except God, you might think you are holier than them inasmuch as yours did not go beyond the thinking stage.

When a man sees a beautiful lady, he knows and when a woman sees an handsome man, she knows too and may want to appreciate this quality but you must not allow your appreciation lead to you to start thinking lustfully towards them. Mind your thoughts and be careful. Many sexual sins that were termed mistakes were not really mistakes in the true sense because at one point or the other, the heart has thought about it. Beware. Be careful. Blessings.

Practical Application: Pay attention to what you watch with your eyes and what you listen to, these are gateway to your heart.

Confession: My heart belongs to the Lord and my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost. I do not allow any impure thoughts to have access into my heart. I diligently guard my heart.
