“But I say that a man who divorces his wife, unless she has been unfaithful, causes her to commit adultery. And anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.” – Matthew 5:32 (NLT)
In the beginning, after God had created the heavens and the earth, He placed the man, Adam, in the garden which He had planted and gave him the responsibility to tend and care for it. He also gave him the task of naming every animal but for Adam, there was not found a help meet comparable to him. To solve this problem, God made a woman out of him and she became his wife. Genesis 2 notes that they were both naked and unashamed.
The plan of God for marriage is that the man would be married to one woman, legally. Anything outside of this is not according to His will and has a direct effect on the institution of marriage. The man is supposed to be faithful to his wife even as the wife does the same. Fornication and adultery are acts of unfaithfulness which are related to marital relationships, and they are forbidden by God.
Christians, both single and married, must understand that God frowns at unfaithfulness of any kind in the marriage institution. Through different acts of unfaithfulness which have had different impacts on the couple involved and even their children, chaos has been brought in to the society.
Either you are single or married, you must know that God hates divorce and you must be careful not to walk the path that brings the idea of divorce to your mind or that of your spouse. A lot of amazing people have been damaged emotionally because of the effects of divorce. You must not allow the devil make you an object of ridicule among others.
Christ, throughout the Gospels, gives His clear and precise thoughts on divorce which stems mostly from unfaithfulness and lustful ambitions in marriage as that which is against the will of God.
Therefore, dear Believer, do not allow unfaithfulness to your partner come through you and also be willing to pray for your spouse not to be unfaithful too. The devil does not in anyway like blissful marriages. He will always look for ways to cause confusion and separation. But you must fight this with all of God’s grace and strength in you. Let not the devil prevail in your marriage. Blessings.
Practical Application: The rate of divorce is quite increasing in this age, can you identify three major reasons people divorce their spouses? And do you think manifesting the fruit of the Spirit as a believer is a lasting solution to divorce?
Confession: My marriage is founded upon Christ and I am not unfaithful in my marital relationship. I walk the path of purity and holiness and transparency. I do not give the devil any foothold in my marriage.
