“Therefore do not worry and be anxious, saying, What are we going to have to eat? Or, What are we going to have to drink? Or, What are we going to have to wear?” – Matthew 6:31 (AMP)
The life of a disciple is not free from the challenges of this world. Being a disciple doesn’t automatically eradicate your needs, in fact, there are times you will have needs that are not sorted while you have an unbeliever around you with his needs sorted. And you will be wondering why yours is like that.
One of the most important teachings of Christ that calls for total obedience, even when He didn’t make it look like an instruction, is that as a disciple you must not worry. Christ knows that you will have needs that may be, sometimes, beyond the resources you have at hand, but you must trust in God. Worrying is a subtle way of doubting God.
Jesus gave a comparison of birds who neither do farming nor gather into barns and yet God feeds them. He also made the instance of lilies who do not make wool yet they are clothed with beauty and glory by God. Here is the challenge: If God is able to do these for the birds of the air and lilies when they do nothing, how much more will He not do for you who works as has been ordained of him?
In the 33rd verse, Christ instructs you to seek the Kingdom of God first, above all things, and then all other things will be added. He gives you this command as a replacement for your worries. What should be your daily pursuit isn’t what you will eat, drink, wear or be sheltered but the Kingdom of God and His righteousness for it is in this is your provision.
Dear Believer, the times are hard enough, that’s a fact but the truth is that God is able to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus (cf. Philippians 4:19). Let this be your confession even in the midst of your pressing needs. Do not allow worry dominate your heart. Trust in God at all times and you will never be put to shame. Blessings.
Practical Application: Make a list of your needs over the past two weeks which you have prayed about. Mark the ones that have been met and asterisk the ones that haven’t been met. Thank God for the ones He has answered and talk to Him again in faith for the ones yet to be done. Keep praying, never worry.
Confession: I belong to the Lord who owns the heaven and the earth, therefore, I have all that I need for life and Godliness. My needs are met and my bills are paid. I do not lack anything good. The Lord supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory.
