“The king went to Gibeon [near Jerusalem, where the tabernacle and the bronze altar stood] to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.” – 1 Kings 3:4 (AMP)
Solomon became king after David, his father and anon he began to live in a way that showed that he had learned walking with God from his father, David. As soon as he ascended the throne, he went to sacrifice to the Lord in the tabernacle which was in Jerusalem and he offered a thousand burnt offerings on the altar to the Lord.
David had left a great legacy for him to walk in and follow throughout his lifetime. He didn’t come to hoard the resources he had but he gave more to God than he kept for himself. He knew what it meant to give abundantly to God. There is nothing he had that he didn’t acknowledge God to be the Giver. There was a response from the Lord to this abundance of offering.
There is nothing you own that was not given to you by God and He desires that you are willing to give back to Him. Solomon was king and he had a whole lot in abundance but who gives that amount of sacrifice as soon as he ascended the throne. This was a time that he should have still been establishing his kingdom.
After he did this, God appeared to him as a show of His pleasure and satisfaction from the abundance of offering that he gave. God is pleased and satisfied when you give to Him in abundance, without holding back. Never think that what you give to God is a waste of resources. The reason many don’t give abundantly to God is that they think it’s a waste of resources. Nothing you give to God is a waste. Let your heart learn to give to God without holding back. You lose the reward anytime you think giving to God is a waste.
Reflections: Have I ever thought that my giving to God is a waste? Is God pleased with my giving?
Confession: I am the light of the world and I shine even amidst blurry lights. I give to God unashamedly and I do not consider my giving as a waste. I have the reward He has in mind for me.
