THE COST OF OBEDIENCE

“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” – Luke 9:23

The Church must confront a TRUTH that is glaringly obvious and it is that the Gospel is free, but obedience is costly. We celebrate REVIVAL. We pray for the HARVEST. We sing about SURRENDER. Yet when obedience demands sacrifice, many of us hesitate, forgetting that Christ did not call us to COMFORT but to the CROSS.

Missions is not sustained by excitement; it is sustained by CONSECRATION. To follow Christ is to deny self daily, choosing purpose over preference, and embracing inconvenience for the sake of ETERNAL IMPACT. The Kingdom advances through men and women who have settled it in their hearts that obedience is non-negotiable.

David Livingstone left the comfort of Scotland and ventured into the heart of Africa in the 19th century, endured malaria, isolation, hunger, and danger. Years passed without visible fruit. Many would have returned home, but Livingstone pressed on, driven by a burden that Africa must hear the Gospel. When asked about his sacrifices, he famously said, “I never made a sacrifice.”

How could a man who had already suffered so much say that?

It was possible because when eternity grips your heart, sacrifice no longer feels like loss, it feels like a great privilege and the early Church understood this.

In Acts 8, persecution scattered the believers, but instead of retreating into silence, they went everywhere preaching the Word. What was meant to crush them became the very force that propelled the Gospel forward. Opposition became opportunity. Pressure became propulsion.

Today, the LORD is calling His Church out of passive Christianity. He is calling us beyond attendance into ASSIGNMENT. Beyond admiration into ACTION and beyond inspiration into INCARNATION.

There are villages that remain unreached. There are campuses that are filled with confusion and chaos. There are cities drowning in hopelessness, and Heaven is asking one question:

WHO WILL CARRY THE CROSS THERE?

Beloved, you must know that missions will cost you TIME, REPUTATION and CONVENIENCE. But the truth is actually that disobedience costs far more than that. When we choose comfort over calling, eternity pays the price.

The harvest is not waiting for the gifted, it is waiting for the AVAILABLE and USABLE. The Spirit is searching for those who will say, “Lord, whatever it takes.” Those who will lay down fear. Those who will crucify hesitation. Those who will choose obedience when no one is applauding.

Today, examine your heart and check what comfort you are protecting.

What fear are you excusing?

What delay are you justifying?

You must understand that the cross is not seasonal, it is DAILY.

The same God who strengthened Livingstone in the jungles of Africa shall strengthen you now. The same Spirit who empowered the early Church shall empower you today.

Grace is made available to you.

Boldness is available.

Strength is available.

The harvest is still plentiful but the labourers are still few.

Will you embrace the cost?
Will you carry the cross?
Will you choose obedience when it demands everything?

Rise.

The Kingdom is worthy of your surrender.

Eternity is worthy of your sacrifice. The call is clear.

Grace to you!

See you tomorrow!
