“By thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.” – Genesis 48:20 (KJV)
There is something beautiful about the way Jacob blessed Joseph’s sons, Ephraim and Manasseh. Joseph brought his two sons before his father, expecting the elder to receive the greater blessing. But Jacob crossed his hands and placed his right hand on Ephraim, the younger. Joseph tried to correct him, but Jacob knew what he was doing. It reminds me that God does not always follow the order people expect. Sometimes, what looks strange to us is still part of His purpose. The blessing of God is not something we can always understand by human arrangement.
Joseph wanted things to be done according to tradition, but Jacob followed what he believed God was showing him. This makes me think about how often we compare our journey with others. We see someone moving ahead of us and begin to wonder why our own story looks different. We ask, “Why them and not me?” But the blessing of another person does not mean God has reduced what He has prepared for me. There is enough grace in God for every one of His children. I do not need to fight for another person’s portion before I can receive mine.
What touches me most is that Jacob was not only speaking about what these young men would have; he was speaking about who they would become. A blessing can carry a picture of the future. Sometimes, we need someone to see beyond our present condition and speak hope over our lives. There may be things about you that you cannot see yet, but God already sees the person you are becoming. Your present season may look small, but small beginnings do not mean an insignificant future.
And perhaps this is the reminder we need today: we do not have to force any blessing. We do not have to manipulate people, compete with friends, compare ourselves with siblings, or rush God because we feel left behind. What God has for us will not require us to become someone we are not. There is a difference between pursuing purpose and desperately chasing validation. One is guided by faith; the other is often driven by fear.
So, when we receive the blessings of God, it may not be for now, but also for our future. Because, He sees the future and knows what would be the best for us and knows how our future would be. God’s blessing isn’t limited by another’s blessing. His blessings are unlimited.
Key Point:
I do not have to compete for what God has prepared for me. His blessing is not limited by another person’s blessing.
Confession:
I will not compare my journey with another person’s journey.
I will not force what God has not released.
I trust God’s timing and God’s process for my life.
What God has prepared for me will come in His appointed time.
Short Prayer:
Father, help me to trust Your plan for my life. When comparison makes me feel behind, remind me that my story is different. Give me patience to wait, wisdom to follow You and grace to celebrate the blessings of others without doubting Your goodness toward me. Amen.
