The Godly Queen Hadassah (2)

Esther 2:20 (AMP)

“Now Esther had not yet revealed her nationality or her people, for she obeyed Mordecai ‘s command to her [to fear God and execute His commands] just as when she was being brought up by him.”

The fear of the Lord is the trait of God that cannot be substituted by anything that a man has to offer. Kings, nobles, and laymen love those who live in the reverent fear of God without the prejudice of religion, for anyone living in the fear of God dwells safely and securely with those around him. A man who fears God, even if he is an unbeliever, lives in such a way that others are at ease and at peace with him, and now, to talk of such a man being a Christian, he then replicates the peaceful and light nature of God here on earth. It is expedient for Christians to know and understand that they cannot make any positive difference on earth as expected by God without fearing him.

The Scripture closes Proverbs with these words: “Charm and grace are deceptive, and beauty is vain [because it is not lasting], but a woman who reverently and worshipfully fears the Lord, she shall be praised!” The intellectual ability of a man and whatever it is that he possesses as a physical quality cannot be used to quantify the impact he would make when he fears the Lord. Everything else can be deceptive, but a person who fears the Lord will make the difference. Vashti had the beauty and the grace, but those were deceptive qualities which were not able to keep her as the queen and because she lacked the fear of God and honour for the king, her position was given to someone with a better quality: the fear of God.

Hadassah, that is, Esther, was trained to fear God and honour men, and this made a lot of difference as the Lord used her greatly in the deliverance of His people. You cannot fear God and not honour men, for the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the wisdom which comes from God teaches that all men are to be honoured, without being partial or dishonourable in act and conduct. Esther was not just a woman with beauty, but she was also a woman who knew that for her to stay long in the king’s presence, she had to value the king above every other thing or person. Whatever or whoever you value, you’ll honour. Beloved, let the fear of God and honour for all men be a sweet aroma that is produced in your character as you relate with God and men of different calibre. You are a light in this world, and what God is set to do through you cannot be fully achieved if you have not learnt to honour all men. Peace be unto you.

Confession: My character produces an aroma of the fear of God and honour for all men.
