THE MAN OF THE FAITH – ABRAHAM (2)

Genesis 14:14 (AMP)

“When Abram heard that [his nephew] had been captured, he armed (led forth) the 318 trained servants born in his own house and pursued the enemy as far as Dan.”

The fourteenth chapter of Genesis seems to be rather silent when talking about the life of Abraham and his faith in God, especially verses 1-17.

Four kings waged war against five kings, and the four won, taking captive the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, where Lot, Abraham’s nephew, was living. After the conquest, someone came to tell Abraham of what had befallen his nephew. Normally, Abraham should have been afraid since he was just a man with servants, not a commander of a great army. But fear was not manifested in him because he had one Person who could fight all battles for him—the LORD, the One who told him in Genesis 15 verse 1 that “Fear not, I am your shield.”

It doesn’t appeal to common sense that a man will gather three hundred and eighteen to go and fight men who are soldiers by profession, but Abraham went to this battle to save his nephew from the claws of death. Why could he achieve this great feat? He was able to do so because he believed God to be his shield.

You cannot overcome the enemy of your soul and life if you haven’t learnt to be obedient to God and also have an unshaking faith in Him. Abraham trusted God that even with his a little above three hundred servants, God could still wrought mighty works. The ways of the Lord are miraculous, and He doesn’t work in certain predictable ways. He doesn’t fight a battle with many but with those He has qualified by Himself. With these few men, Abraham defeated four different nations to save his nephew.

There are many victories that have been accomplished for you by Christ, but at times, fear and lack of faith can prevent you from entering into the reality of this victory in your life. If God had needed 1,000 men for the battle, then it could’ve been rational enough if they won, but God doesn’t share His glory with anyone, and He doesn’t win a battle by the number of warriors but by trusting in Him solely.

Beloved, God will do much more for you if only you will learn to have faith in God and not be moved by the sound and experience of war or battle. The Lord God is the One who fights your battles. Rest in Him. Trust and have faith in Him, for He is your shield.

Confession: I boldly declare that I am a child of God, set apart for His glory. I refuse to be conformed to this world; I am transformed by the renewing of my mind. By faith, I dare to stand out, even when it is unpopular. I do not live by fear, but by the Word of God that never fails.
