“Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” – Matthew 18:19-20 (KJV)
Prayer is powerful, but there is something particularly significant about believers coming together in unity to pray. The prayer of agreement is not simply several people praying at the same time. It is two or more people standing together in faith, unity, and one accord concerning a matter before God.
The prayer of agreement is a prayer in which believers unite their hearts and faith concerning a particular matter and bring it before God. The word “agreement” suggests harmony, unity, and being of one mind.
Jesus said:
“If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask…”
This means that believers can come together and say, in essence, “We are trusting God together concerning this matter.”
Amos 3:3
“Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
Agreement creates unity, and unity creates an atmosphere where believers can seek God together. Agreement is more than being physically together. Two people can be in the same room and still not be in agreement.
You can have ten people praying, but if everyone is praying with a different heart, different purpose, and different expectation, there may not be true agreement. The prayer of agreement involves unity of heart and purpose.
In Acts 4:24, when the early believers faced opposition, they raised their voices to God with one accord. They did not allow fear or disagreement to divide them. They came together and sought God.
Agreement in prayer is very powerful. Jesus gave a remarkable promise in Matthew 18:19:
“If two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven.”
This demonstrates that God values spiritual unity among His people.
There is power when:
Husband and wife pray together.
Parents and children pray together.
Friends pray together.
Believers pray together.
A church prays together.
A congregation stands together in faith.
Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 teaches that two are better than one, because when one falls, the other can help. There are moments when your faith may be weak, but someone else’s faith can encourage you.
Reflection: When God’s people agree in prayer, they are not merely joining voices; they are joining faith, hearts, and purpose before God. Do not underestimate what God can do when His people pray together in unity.
Confession: My heart is purified by the Spirit of God and I am united in heart and purpose with the brethren. I do not sow the seed of discord.
