THE SEVEN “I AM” (1)

“Jesus replied, I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE. He who comes to Me will never be hungry, and he who believes in and cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me will never thirst any more (at any time).” – John 6:35 (AMP)

Hunger is the state of a man when he has no food in his stomach even with the appetite to eat. Food is an essential when it comes to the continuous existence of man. No man can survive long without food. It is needed for strength and balanced health. Throughout the ministerial life of Jesus, He fed people supernaturally, showing that food is important to human existence.

However, in Matthew 4:4, Jesus made a distinctive statement on food (bread) when He said: “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Jesus is the Word that came from God and became flesh (John 1). This stresses the truth that man cannot truly live based on the physical food which perishes but must also consume the spiritual food which gives life here on earth and eternally.

There are many out there who have money to buy food here on earth but have no life in them because they know not Christ nor the life that He gives. Jesus is the BREAD OF LIFE and whoever believes and comes to Him shall never hunger nor thirst. What this means is that you must believe in and come to Christ in order to have life in you.

Being religious without an experiential knowledge of Jesus Christ will only leave you in a poor state of spiritual dissatisfaction. Are you experiencing spiritual weaknesses and it looks like you are not alive in God? You have to come to Christ and you have to come daily, to be fed.

The Word of God gives you life and you must not be a stranger to the Word, by all means. Your Christian life survives on your obedience to the Word of God. It’s te middle of the year and you must pause and consider if you’ve been fed well by the Word of Life. Decide to be fed more as the year goes on for it is a journey which requires the strength and life that Christ gives.

Reflections: How well do I feed on the Word of Life? What do I seek more, bread that perishes or the Bread that gives eternal life?

Confession: I have strong appetite for the Word. I am not consumed by the affections of this world. I keep my focus and desire on the Lord Jesus.
