Romans 15:4 (NIV)
“For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”
Suffering is never easy. It brings pain, confusion, and questions. But as believers, we are not left to face suffering alone or in silence. God has given us something powerful to carry us through—His Word.
Paul reminds us in Romans 15:4 that everything written in Scripture has a purpose. The stories of men and women who walked with God through fire, storms, and wilderness were not written just to fill pages. They were written to teach us, strengthen us, and give us hope when we face our own suffering.
When you read about Joseph, you learn that even betrayal and prison cannot stop God’s plan. When you read about Job, you see that God does not forget those who suffer faithfully. When you read the Psalms, you hear David crying out in distress, yet still trusting in God. These Scriptures are not just history, they are healing.
The Word of God speaks to our pain. It reminds us that suffering does not mean we are abandoned. It shows us that trials are not the end of the story. It teaches us to endure with courage and fills our hearts with hope. Real hope is not the belief that life will always be easy, it is the confidence that God is with us and working for our good, even in the middle of suffering.
Sometimes, when you are hurting, it is hard to pray. It is hard to sing. But never stop feeding on the Word. Even a single verse can comfort your heart and shift your focus back to God. The Word lifts us out of despair and reminds us of God’s faithfulness.
So when you suffer, do not suffer in silence. Open your Bible. Let the Scriptures speak to your heart. Let God’s voice become louder than your pain.
Confession: In my suffering, I turn to the Word. It gives me strength, teaches me endurance, and fills me with hope. I will not be broken—I am held by the promises of God.
