WHO ARE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES & WHO ARE CHRISTIANS?

A group is not CHRISTIAN simply because they use the name “Jesus” or quote the Bible. A group is Christian only if they hold, belief and live by the principles of the TRUE BIBLICAL GOSPEL and the TRUE BIBLICAL CHRIST.

In our generation, religious confusion has become so high and even decorated that we have so many people that assume that any group that mentions “Jesus,” CARRIES a Bible, and SPEAKS about God must automatically be Christian and this assumption has unfortunately led many sincere people into deception, depression and a percentage, death.

One of such group that has been widely misunderstood in our days is JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES.

They speak about God. They use the name ofJesus. They distribute literature aggressively – even more than TRUE CHRISTIANS. They knock on doors with zeal, ‘preaching’ more than those called to really preach. Yet there is a critical question many have either failed to respond to or evaded, just to ‘maintain peace’ and the question is:

ARE THEY TRULY CHRISTIANS ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE?

To be able answer this question, we must first define who truly is a Christian.

WHO IS A CHRISTIAN?

First, we must understand that, a Christian is not merely someone who believes in God, reads the Bible, is religious or even sincere. A Christian is one who BELIEVES the true biblical Gospel and FOLLOWS the true Biblical Christ.

The Bible already clearly defines what true Christianity is in 2 Cotinthians 11:4:

“If anyone preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or another gospel, you may well put up with it.”

“He who does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God.” — 2 John 1:9

So according to the Bible the following are not minor issues. They determine whether one is truly in Christ or not:

  • The IDENTITY of Jesus
  • The NATURE of God
  • The MEANS of salvation
  • The AUTHORITY of Scripture

WHO ARE THE JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES?

Jehovah’s Witnesses began in the late 1800s through Charles Taze Russell in the United States and are governed today by a small leadership group known as the Governing Body.

Some of their well-known beliefs include:

  1. Denial of the Trinity
  2. Teaching that Jesus is not God but a created being (Michael the Archangel)
  3. Teaching that only 144,000 people will go to heaven
  4. Teaching that salvation is tied to loyalty to their organization
  5. Using a unique Bible called the New World Translation
  6. They present themselves as the only true worshippers of God and claim all other churches are false.

HERE IS THE REAL ISSUE WE MUST NOTE

Jehovah’s Witnesses use the following:

  • The name Jehovah
  • The name Jesus
  • The word Gospel
  • The word Kingdom

But, we must be aware that using biblical words is not same as holding or believing Biblical truths. Satan also uses Scripture like he did with Jesus in Matthew 4:6. False teachers also speak Christian language like Jesus warned us againt them in Matthew 7:21–23. What matters is what those words truly mean.

BIBLICAL TEST FOR TRUE CHRISTIANITY

The Bible gives us a clear test, which is in Matthew 16:15 when Jesus Himself asked His disciples, also asking everyone who claims to be a Christian in our days: “Who do you say that I am?”

A true Christian believes that Jesus is fully God and fully man; that Jesus is eternal, not created; Salvation is by grace alone and not through an organization but through faith in Christ alone. Any group that denies these truths has already departed from historic Biblical Christianity, no matter how religious they appear.

CONCLUSION

Jehovah’s Witnesses are often sincere, disciplined, and deeply committed to what they believe. But sincerity, no matter how intense, does not transform error into truth. A man can be passionately wrong and zeal without accurate knowledge remains dangerous (Romans 10:2).

I would like to say ahead that this series and the following were not written from a place of mockery, malice, or personal hatred; they’ve been written from a place of burden for truth, love for souls, and a reverence for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Doctrinal error is never harmless – it always distorts the person of Christ, corrupts the message of salvation, and misleads those who follow it.

The aim for writing is threefold:

  1. To EXPOSE doctrinal error clearly and scripturally.
  2. To PROTECT believers from confusion and deception.
  3. To LOVINGLY CALL sincere Jehovah’s Witnesses to the true, biblical Christ and not the Christ redefined by an organization.

The Gospel is not flexible, not subject to revision by any movement, translation, or governing body. It was once and for all delivered to the saints (Jude 1:3), and it remains the only message by which men must be saved.

Eternal destinies are at stake, Christ Himself is at stake, and when the identity of Jesus is corrupted, everything else collapses with it.

It is my prayer that the Spirit of truth will open eyes, convict hearts, and lead many, not to an organization, but to the living, eternal, fully divine Lord Jesus Christ, the only Saviour of the world.

Grace to you!
