Romans 12:2 (AMPC)
“Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].”
Christianity, as generally believed by many, is a religion, and the adherents are called Christians, just like Muslims are adherents of Islam; however, one aspect of the definition is missing, which must not be excluded from the meaning if we would have an accurately captured definition, and it is that Christianity is more than just a religion; it is a lifestyle.
Christ is the standard for His disciples, and for one to be called a Christian, he must have conformed to the person of Christ. One who is not conformed to Christ has no right to answer to the name Christian. It is unfortunate to see and hear of believers who are making efforts to conform to the superficial norms and customs of this world and thereby forsaking who their true focus should be. Being like Christ is a non-negotiable in the disciple’s journey.
In addition, daily transformation must take place from the inside out by the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer if he will be a Christian indeed. One who is an adult baby in the faith cannot be called Christian, for even though he’s been saved for a long time, he still lives like a baby in knowledge and in the faith. Such people never make any progress in their walk with God because they refuse to allow transformation in their lives. Daily transformation is requisite for Christ-like living.
Being transformed daily by the Word through the Holy Spirit births conformity to Christ. You cannot become like Christ if you do not allow the Holy Spirit to do His perfect work in you. You must yield to the working of the Spirit in you for you to make progress. You need to be awakened to your reality and person in Christ. You need to start living and thinking like a true Christian; enough of living as a hypocrite.
Confession: I intentionally allow the Holy Spirit to do His work in me that I might be transformed and conformed to the image of Christ.
