SERMON ON THE MOUNT (7)

“Blessed (happy, enviably fortunate, and spiritually prosperous – possessing the happiness produced by the experience of God ‘s favor and especially conditioned by the revelation of His grace, regardless of their outward conditions) are the pure in heart, for they shall see God!” – Matthew 5:8 (AMP)

Time and time again, many persons have desired to have an experiential knowledge of God which is most times termed to mean “seeing God”. Most humans on earth would have loved to really see God but not many persons will be able to do that. God is not someone that can be accessed because you only desire to see Him. There is a criteria that God doesn’t joke with as it pertains to anyone’s relationship with Him – HOLINESS, PURITY.

Psalms 15 gives a succinct response to the question of those who are worthy to have access to the tabernacle and Holy Hill of the Lord. Verse 2 reads – “He who walks and lives uprightly and blamelessly, who works rightness and justice and speaks and thinks the truth in his heart.” The nature of God is unparalleled Holiness and everyone who approaches Him must also possess this.

Christ spoke of this as He taught His disciples on the Mount because of how important it is in relation to being of God. The world we are now is filled with sin and immorality, and unfortunately, these acts have creeped into the hearts and lives of Christians, thereby making them impure. An impure heart cannot see God, no matter the number of days of fasting or the times of prayer observed.

How does a man keep his heart pure and unspotted from the world? Psalm 119:9 answers this simply – “How shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed and keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to it].” This means that in a world with a high level of perversion, living in conformity to the Word of God helps to purify our hearts and make us holy despite the iniquity all around.

Dear Believer, we are in a time when guarding your heart with all diligence is a non-negotiable if you want to progressively see God more and more. You cannot joke with the state of your heart. Offenses, evil thoughts, and perversions must not be allowed in your heart. These and many more make the heart impure and uninhabitable for God. Truth be told, we need God to survive the perils of this age but we must not allow our hearts wander into the depravity that permeates the present world.

Take heed to this closing admonition from James 1:27 – “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Practical Application: Take a mental note of some overlooked sins that easily corrupt you. Ask God for forgiveness and begin to work to being purified by the Word and prayer.

Confession: I am an ambassador of Christ and I represent Him in purity, holiness and consecration. My heart is not corrupted by the evil in this world but I impact this world with the goodness in me.
