GIFTS TO GOD – MONEY (1)

“Honour the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your crops (income); then your barns will be abundantly filled and your vats will overflow with new wine.” -Proverbs 3:9-10 (AMP)

Deuteronomy 8:18 is one of the Scriptures that vividly explains that true wealth comes from the Lord and not by total dependence on what one does or does not do. After that the children of Israel had left Egypt, God began to take them through the journey in the wilderness, and the long years they spent on this journey afforded them the opportunity to know God and His ways of dealing with them. In Deuteronomy 8, Moses was recounting to the people the wonderful things God did for them since they left Egypt and one of the things he mentioned to them was the supernatural provision they received and enjoyed from the Lord.

In many Christian circles, believers remember God when they are still struggling to make ends meet but soon forget God and how He had sustained them once they make good money and this is a trend that has been pushed to the side-lines. God doesn’t just want us to sow seed for breakthrough and blessings because we were struggling financially, He wants us to have the heart that gives willingly to Him and for His purpose even in our abundance without doing so for multiple returns.

“And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth…” – This was one thing the Lord brought to the remembrance of the Israelites and which every believer must always remember as well. No matter the abundance of wealth you have, you must always remember that it is God that has given you the power to get it and the way to appreciate Him for this is by giving back to Him, not for multiple fold reward but as a show of thanksgiving.

You must disabuse your mind that the only reason you give your money to the course of the Kingdom of God is so that you can have more in return. Whatever you can boast of having was given you by the Lord and honouring Him with these is worthy and notable. Make up your mind to honour God with resources today, decide not to give to God for the purpose of receiving more but for appreciating God for what He has given you.

Reflections: When last have I genuinely given my money for the course of the Gospel? Am I transactional with God in my giving? Do I honour the Lord with my money or have I replaced God with my money?

Confession: I receive the wisdom and power to use my resources for the purpose of God and this Kingdom. I will not idolize whatever God has given me but I will live in daily appreciation of what He has given to me.
