“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” -Romans 12:1-2 (KJV)

The prayer of consecration is a prayer of dedication. It’s where a believer surrenders all to God, to His control, His lead and guidance. At that moment, such a believer sees himself as nothing and God as everything. This is a kind of prayer that purifies the heart of man before God, taking away every form of self and becoming set apart unto the Lord alone.

Like the bible text says, we should present ourselves as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. Humanly speaking, this is not possible, we can’t do it with our human flesh,  our own ability would fail us and we would end up struggling to be how He wants us to be. That is where the prayer of consecration comes in.

We pray our lives into God’s hand, dedicating everything about us to Him, telling Him to control our lives. We no longer struggle with His spirit, we no longer depend on our selves or abilities. We come to acknowledge His supremacy and ownership of our lives.

Prayer of consecration isn’t just about confessing the words but doing what we prayed. When we make the prayer, we believe that God has heard us and we yield ourselves to Him. So, yielding is as important as saying the prayer. Because when we yield, we show that we mean what we pray for and we are ready to follow Him diligently and do His will.
