“But when he saw [the effects of] the wind, he was frightened, and he began to sink, and he cried out, “Lord, save me!” – Matthew 14:30 (AMP)

Peter stepped out of the boat because he believed the word of Jesus. For a moment, he walked on the water and did what seemed impossible. But when he saw the wind and the waves, fear entered his heart. His circumstances became louder than the voice that called him. Sometimes our faith becomes weak when our focus shifts from Jesus to our problems.

The storm did not change first; Peter’s focus changed. Peter’s experience reminds us that faith does not mean the absence of storms. We can obey God and still face difficult moments along the journey.

The presence of a storm does not mean that God has abandoned us.When Peter began to sink, he cried, “Lord, save me,” and Jesus reached for him. Even in his moment of weakness, Peter knew where to turn. When your faith feels weak, do not run from Jesus; run towards Him.

We strengthen our faith by continually feeding our hearts with God’s Word. Romans 10:17 teaches that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. We should also remember God’s faithfulness and the things He has already done. Prayer gives us a place to bring our fears, doubts, and questions honestly before Him. We must take one step of obedience at a time, even when we cannot see the whole path.

Above all, we must keep our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith. Your faith may tremble, but you do not have to give up. When you cannot see the way, remember that God can see beyond what you see.

When fear becomes loud, return to His promises and let His Word speak again.

When you begin to sink, call upon Jesus rather than surrendering to fear. You may not understand what God is doing, but you can continue to trust who He is. Keep your eyes on Jesus, keep walking by faith, and keep believing.

I will keep my eyes on Jesus and not be ruled by my circumstances.

When my faith is weak, I will pray, remember His faithfulness, and keep walking.
