“And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.”  – Exodus 14:22

The story of the children of Israel in the book of Exodus tells us how far God can go in delivering His chosen ones and making them triumph over their enemies. It tells of the great act of God’s mercy and how He hears His people when they cry and call out to Him. It tells us how He sends His servants to His people, giving them a message of hope.

In Exodus 14, the children of Israel were told to leave Egypt after God dealt with the Egyptians with 10 plagues. That night, they left Egypt and God granted them favour in the sight of the Egyptians, who gave them different things as they were leaving.

But during their journey, the Bible says that the Lord God hardened the heart of Pharaoh and he led his army to pursue the Israelites. But God always kept them far away from reaching the Israelites. He protected them all through the journey.

Then, they got to the Red sea, their faith began to go weak. They turned to Moses and complained to him. They looked behind them, the Egyptians were coming, and at their front was the Red sea. They were surrounded and felt overwhelmed by the problems they faced.

They’ve forgotten the God who had been leading them from the beginning. Instead, they were looking at the problem. Sometimes, that’s how we are. When we get to a difficult place in life, we look at that difficulty and forget the God who has always been there for us. We lose focus of God’s promises and focus on the challenges. We begin to lose faith and trust in God

Sometimes faith becomes weak when we look at the Red Sea instead of the God who can part it. We begin to look for solutions ourselves, we begin to imagine and think “if only”, just like the Israelites.

The Israelites saw an impossible barrier, but God saw an opportunity to reveal His power. When you cannot see a way, remember that the absence of a visible path does not mean God has no path. God is always there with us. When Moses turned to God, God instructed him on what to do. Moses followed God’s instructions and there was a miracle, a pathway was created in the midst of the sea. The Israelites walked on dry ground and crossed over successfully.

Sometimes, what we need to overcome that difficult situation, might be an instruction, a word from God and there would be a miracle. But if we don’t turn to Him and set our focus solely on Him, we won’t hear or know what He wants us to do. Even when our faith is weak, He is able to strengthen that faith in Him.

All we need to do is to ‘TURN TO HIM’ as Moses did.

Action Point: Are you faced by difficult challenges? Are you facing a Red Sea today, turn to God!

Confession: I believe in the Lord, and I will trust Him even when I cannot see the way.

I will not allow fear to speak louder than God’s Word. When I come to a Red Sea situation, I will remember that my God is the God who makes a way where there seems to be no way.

I choose to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. The Lord will fight for me, and I will not be overcome by fear.
