THE GREATNESS OF GOD (4)

“And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power.” – Ephesians 1:19 (KJV)

The greatness of God is not something we can fully comprehend. We see glimpses of it in His creation, His works, His faithfulness, and the countless ways He reveals Himself to humanity. Yet, one aspect of His greatness that deserves our attention is His power.

When Paul wrote to the believers in Ephesus, he prayed that their eyes would be enlightened so they could understand the hope of God’s calling, the riches of His inheritance in the saints, and the exceeding greatness of His power toward those who believe.

It is interesting that Paul did not pray only for them to experience God’s power. He also prayed that they would understand it. This reminds us that there is a difference between hearing about God’s power and growing in our understanding of how great His power truly is.

Sometimes, we become so focused on the things we want God to do that we forget to consider who He is. We measure His power by the size of our problems, the length of our waiting, or the impossibility of our situations. But God’s power is not determined by what we are facing.

Throughout Scripture, we see His power displayed in extraordinary ways. He spoke, and creation came into existence. He made a way through the Red Sea when there appeared to be no way forward. Jesus healed the sick, opened blind eyes, calmed storms, and raised the dead. These accounts remind us that nothing is too difficult for Him.

However, the passage in Ephesians points us to an even greater demonstration of God’s power: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Paul explains that the power God exercised in raising Christ from the dead is the same mighty power at work in His purpose toward believers. The resurrection was not merely an extraordinary event; it was a declaration of Christ’s victory over death and His exaltation above every principality, power, dominion, and name.

This means that our understanding of God’s power must go beyond the immediate solutions we desire. His power is not limited to changing external circumstances. He is also able to strengthen us inwardly, transform our hearts, give us grace to endure, and enable us to remain faithful when life becomes difficult.

Sometimes, we pray for God to remove a situation, but He gives us strength to walk through it. We ask Him to change everything around us, yet He begins by changing something within us. This does not mean He is powerless to change our circumstances. It means we must not limit His power to one particular outcome.

God’s power is also not an invitation to live carelessly or assume that everything we desire must happen exactly as we imagine. Faith is not about controlling God through our expectations. It is about trusting His sovereignty, believing His Word, and remaining obedient to Him.

Perhaps you are facing something that seems bigger than your strength. You may have reached a point where your own wisdom, effort, and ability seem insufficient. Remember that your limitations do not define God’s ability. You can bring your weakness to Him, ask for His help, and depend on His grace.

At the same time, do not overlook the quiet ways His power may be working in you. The grace to forgive when you have been hurt, the courage to obey when obedience is difficult, the strength to continue after disappointment, and the willingness to trust God while you wait are not things to take lightly.

Beloved, the greatness of God’s power is not measured by how easily our lives unfold. His power is revealed in His works, in the victory of Christ, and in His ability to sustain and transform those who trust Him.

You may not understand everything happening in your life today, but you can continue to know the God whose power is beyond human limitations. Let His Word shape your understanding of Him, and let your faith rest not merely on what you hope He will do, but also on who He has revealed Himself to be.

The God who raised Jesus Christ from the dead is not limited by human weakness. His power is great, His authority is supreme, and He remains worthy of our trust.

Reflection

Have I been measuring God’s power by the size of my present challenges, or am I learning to trust Him beyond what I can see and understand?

Key Point

God’s power is far greater than our human limitations. We can trust Him to work according to His perfect will, strengthen us in our weakness, and accomplish His purposes even when we cannot see how He is working.

Confession

God is great in power, and nothing can limit His sovereignty.

My circumstances do not determine the greatness of my God.

I receive grace to trust Him in my weakness and uncertainty.

I will not limit God to what my mind can understand.

By His grace, I will continue to walk in faith and obedience.

Short Prayer

Father, thank You for Your exceeding greatness and mighty power. Forgive me for the times I have measured Your ability by my circumstances or allowed fear to weaken my trust in You. Open my eyes to understand more of who You are. Strengthen me in my weakness, help me remain faithful in difficult seasons, and teach me to trust Your perfect will. May my life continually reflect the greatness of Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
